A dip in the crystalline waters of the Sardinian Sea
After spending some time among the naturalistic beauties of the Supramonte di Dorgali, it is really worth leaving the trekking boots to head towards the beaches of the Gulf of Orosei and admire the crystal-clear waters and the wonderful cliffs that frame them. Let's find them out together!
Cala Fuili
Cala Fuili is the last beach accessible by land from the center of Cala Gonone. The crystalline color and the clearness of its waters enchant from the top of the road, from which it is necessary to take a staircase that leads to the beach, made up of sand and white pebbles. Cala Fuili is the last part of a karst Codula that bears his name, but it is also the starting point for the path that leads to the Grotte del Bue Marino and Cala Luna.
Ziu Martine beach
Accessible through a staircase of rocks, in the middle of a forest of junipers, myrtles and mastic trees, the beach of Ziu Martine is surrounded by white limestone walls on the sides that create a curious contrast with the rocks of basaltic origin. The crystal-clear water and the white pebble beach complete this work of natural origin.
Cala Cartoe
Cala Cartoe is a small corner of paradise just 10 km north from the center of Cala Gonone. It is characterized by a beach of fine sand that frames an emerald sea, with a shallow seabed for over 300 meters. Behind the beach, a lagoon and dense vegetation of Mediterranean scrub plants make it one of a kind.
Cala Luna
Cala Luna is an inlet carved into the cliffs with an 800-meter-long strip of fine golden sand in the center, which plunges into the clear blue-toned sea. The cove rises in the mouth of the Ilune stream, a stream that for thousands of years has carved out the long Codula di Luna canyon, which feeds a small lake behind the beach, surrounded by a forest of oleanders and Macchia Mediterranea. The cliffs, 300 meters high and bolted in some places, are constituted on the north side by five large caves, inside which it is possible to shelter during the hottest hours.
Cala Osalla
Osalla is made up of a cove surrounded by greenery in the territory of Dorgali and a large adjacent beach in the territory of Orosei, at the mouth of the Cedrino river, which forms a pond home to numerous water birds. Cala di Osalla is separated from the beach of the same name by a rocky spur, easily surmountable on foot, where a small harbour has been built for tourist and fishing boats.
Cala Sisine
Blue sea and a very white backdrop of round pebbles. Cala Sisine rises at the end of a Codula covered by the green of centuries-old carob and holm oak trees. It was once the bed of a river, today it is the mouth of a small stream that originates in the Supramonte of Baunei. About 200 meters wide, it overlooks the cliffs of the Serra Ovra which from a height of over 500 meters descends steeply to the sea, flanked, almost enveloped, by rocky ridges.
Cala Biriola
A small cove of rounded white pebbles, protected by a limestone cliff of over two kilometers, Cala Biriola opens up at the end of the enchanting grove of the same name, made of centuries-old holm oaks, junipers perched on the rock and Mediterranean scrub. It is framed by a rocky arch above the water which, together with the rest, defines the beauty of this natural setting.
Cala Mariolu
Also called “is pùligi de nie” (snow fleas) for the round, white and pink pebbles mixed with the sand that make it up, Cala Mariolu is a dip in the sea that seems painted. Its panorama is striking for its shades of blue, emerald green and azure, but also for the 500-meter-high cliff that falls straight into the sea.
Cala Goloritzè
Here seas and mountains meet to give life to a pearl of the Mediterranean Sea, where the rugged and rocky coastline gently withdraw inland, leaving room for a myriad of white pebbles. On the seabed, the turquoise waters gush out from submarine karst springs and together with a natural arch and the famous pyramid shaped Aguglia define the characteristics of this world heritage site.
